A northern Alberta community, that’s just downstream from the oil sands, will be trying to get energy from a difference source.
The Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation will be giving solar power a trial, as they install solar panels on their Youth And Elder Lodge.
The AFCN will be hosting an open house for the lodge, including a ribbon cutting ceremony at 11AM.
Working in AFCN Housing and Special Projects, Greg Adams says the small Edmonton crew that helped with the installation, will also help in training community members.
“They’re training our local youth and our local housing crews,” says Adams. “Even our local electricians will be getting trained on [maintenance and installations]” .
While the lodge is just a start, the community is already asking about installing solar panels on more locations. TL
