Barely beyond the decision earlier this week that found Robin Thicke, Pharrell Williams, and T.I.’s 2013 hit song ‘Blurred Lines’ too similar to Marvin Gaye’s “Got to Give it Up”, which resulted in Gaye’s family being awarded more than $7 million , there’s yet another song in question, if not yet in court, that made a lot of people ‘HAPPY’ in 2014.
“I’m not going to lie. I do think they sound alike,” Nona Gaye, Marvin’s 40-year-old daughter, says about the similarity between ‘Happy’ and her dad’s song ‘Ain’t That Peculiar’. She adds that she wasn’t thinking about the legal implications right now. “We’re not in that space”. Not yet.
Have a listen to both songs in this ‘mash-up’.
