Are you ever scrolling through Facebook and come across the COOLEST post about something that you would never have given a thought to? This one will be an awesome dinner party convo to impress your friends with.
Christopher Bickel at Dangerousminds.net noticed that one man kept popping up in a ton of videos from the heydey of MTV (you know when there were actual music videos on the channel). He showed up in some classic rockers videos – like Billy Joel, Joan Jett, Bonnie Tyler and Elton John. He also cameo’ed in some iconic 80s bands videos like Simple Minds, XTC, Squeeze and Ultravox.
So who was this man? His name was Michael Baldwin and Bickel discovered that he passed away in 2014. He also discovered that he wasn’t just an extra in videos, he was an acclaimed costume designer, coming up with looks for Freddie Mercury and The Beatles. Check out his website with his commentary about how these costumes came about. It’s pretty cool. He also worked on the Rolling Stones 1968 Rock and Roll Circus.
Then check out the article on dangerousminds.net. How many of the videos can you remember seeing Michael Baldwin in. Are there any missing that they haven’t found yet? And who knew that Total Eclipse of the Heart would have 77 million YouTube views?
