Julia Roberts is returning to a television screen near you.
The Hollywood legend is trading in her big screen roles to star in a limited television series based on Maria Semple’s newest book, Today Will Be Different, which debuted earlier this year in October.
Roberts will be in good hands with Semple, who is no stranger to the small screen, having worked as a writer and a producer on television’s Suddenly Susan and Arrested Development. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Semple will write the adaptation for the series.
Today Will Be Different tells the story of a woman, Eleanor Flood, determined to have the best day ever, but who soon finds out that life is about to throw her a curve ball.
Roberts’ involvement will also extend beyond the camera as she takes on a producing role in the series as well. She’ll be producing the series through her Red Om Films Banner along with Semple, Megan Ellison and former HBO executive Sue Naegle under Annapurna Pictures.
“I’m giddy that Eleanor Flood will be brought to life by Julia Roberts and am elated to collaborate with Megan Ellison, Sue Naegle and the team at Annapurna on this endeavour. This will be a fun ride!” Semple told THR.
Roberts’ first foray into TV occurred in 2014 when she starred in Ryan Murphy’s HBO Television film The Normal Heart.
A network has yet to pick up the series.
