After debuting two new singles last week and announcing the upcoming release of his long-anticipated album ÷, Ed Sheeran has been crowned the unofficial king of Spotify.
The 25-year-old singer has managed to break several records – topping Adele and Drake – on the streaming service, only days after releasing singles, Shape of You and Castle on the Hill.
The streaming service confirmed on Monday that his newest hits helped him beat out Adele’s Hello for a single’s Best First Week, amassing over 52 million streams in its first seven days. The track also toppled Drake’s record-breaking One Dance for Best First Week in the UK.
Both of Sheeran’s singles also beat out One Direction’s Drag Me Down for Best First Day streams after his fans listened on repeat, giving Shape of You 6.8 million listens, and Castle On The Hill 6.1 million, on Jan. 6.
Shape of You also went on to collect the most streams for a single day after being streamed nearly 8 million times in a 24-hour period.
