During a recent interview with The Telegraph, the 36-year-old Kong: Skull Island actor got noticeably agitated when the reported asked whether the actor regretted “the publicity and gossip the romance engendered.”
According to the newspaper, Hiddleston “testily” replies, “What should I regret, in your mind? I would rather not talk about this, if that’s alright.”
The actor has been candid about his summer romance with the Shake It Off singer, most recently opening up to GQ about Swift, calling his former flame “generous and kind and lovely.”
The actor found himself thrust into the spotlight as his every move with Swift was splashed across tabloids, something Hiddleston had yet to experience. But now, the Thor actor would rather move on from talking about their brief time together.
“I’m just thinking about this,” he tells The Telegraph. “Everyone is entitled to a private life. I love what I do and I dedicate myself with absolute commitment to making great art and great entertainment, and in my mind I don’t conflict the two. My work is in the public sphere and I have a private life,” he says, clarifying his comments. “And those two things are separate.”
But it seems Hiddleston can’t escape questions about Swift just yet.
During an appearance on the Today show, the actor let out a heavy sigh when host Savannah Guthrie brought up his relationship with Swift.
“Well, um…Yeah. It’s…You know, I make a clear distinction between my work, which I absolutely dedicate myself to, which is for the public,” he explains. “I really believe in that relationship between an actor and the audience, and… you can’t call yourself an actor without the public.”
Hiddleston reiterated his point, stating, “private life is private.”
