The 66-year-old Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 star was on Harry Connick, Jr.’s talk show when he shared the intimate details of his first date with long-time love Hawn, whom he met on the 1983 set of Swing Shift.
The pair spent some time on the dance floor at a bar before they decided to sneak off for some alone time to check out the house Hawn was in the process of renovating. One thing led to another and the couple ended up upstairs in the empty home.
“We eventually found our way upstairs looking at imaginary furniture and we were in the imaginary bedroom now and we are realistically having sex when the police walked in,” Russell remembers. “We had to break into the place to get in so the next thing I see is a flashlight and Goldie and I are like, ‘what?’ It was bizarre and weird.”
For Russell, that memorable night doesn’t seem like it happened nearly 35 years ago.
“We were told to go get a hotel room, which we did. That was our first date,” he says, adding. “It was a lot of fun. I can’t believe it was a long time ago.”
Last year, Hawn revealed that she and Russell would have parted ways long ago if they had decided to tie the knot officially.
“I would be long divorced if I’d been married,” she told ITV. “I chose to stay, Kurt chose to stay, and we liked the choice.” The couple have one child together, 30-year-old actor Wyatt, and children from previous relationships, including Hawn’s daughter, Kate Hudson.
Now, 34 years after their first date, the pair are still going strong, with Hawn standing by Russell’s side at the Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 premiere in Los Angeles this week.
