Looking back on the time DeGeneres hosted Saturday Night Live in 2001, the trio were a little fuzzy on what some of their sketches were about, but there is one thing Ferrell remembered.
“I do remember the sketch where I accidentally punched you in the face,” he says. “And I gave you boxing headgear as an apology later.”
“That was really sweet” DeGeneres responded. “I thought about suing and I didn’t,” she added with a laugh.
Aside from admitting to punching DeGeners, Ferrell got candid about returning to another character from Saturday Night Live, George W. Bush.
“It was very interesting to step out as George W. Bush and get a standing ovation,” he said of reprising the character at Samantha Bee’s Not the White House Correspondents’ Dinner .
“Because now you kind of look on him with a different lens,” he continued, adding, “you know what I am referring to” to raucous laughter from the crowd. “He’s the kind of the elder kindly statesman who, ahh, you know, respected the office of the President …to some extent.”
Continuing on with his Presidential debate, Ferrell compared Bush to “someone else” saying “someone else is full maniac, and he’s like …a half cup a maniac” he adds in his signature drawl.
The pair also dressed up as casino dealers, in honour of their new film, to bestow some financial gifts to the crowd.
