In 2013, plans of development to make the iconic album into a musical were first revealed and now details for the highly anticipated show include the involvement of Oscar-winning screenwriter Diablo Cody (Juno) and Tony-winning director Diane Paulus (Pippin, Finding Neverland).
The musical, featuring songs from Jagged Little Pill, will be directed by Paulus, and will include the work of composer Tom Kitt (American Idiot, Next to Normal).
“Alanis, Diablo, Diane and Tom are a producer’s dream team,” producers Vivek J. Tiwary, Arvind Ethan David and Eva Price said in a joint statement. “We’re honoured to be shepherding these four fierce pioneers towards the creation of a what will be a true cultural event, one worthy of the groundbreaking legacy of Jagged Little Pill.”
“I am so excited to tell a modern story through these iconic songs. Alanis’s music is full of powerful narratives that lend themselves organically to this process,” Cody said in a press release.
“This team that has come together for this Jagged Little Pill musical is my musical theatre dream come true,” Morissette said in the same statement. “The chemistry between all of us is crackling and I feel honoured to be diving into these songs again, surrounded by all of this searing talent. Diablo and Diane are already taking these deeply personal songs that are part of my soul’s marrow to a whole other level of hope, freedom and complexity.”
Fans of Morissette took to Twitter to discuss the album and the upcoming musical.

I will never forget where I was, or how I felt the day I found out 'You Oughta Know' from Jagged Little Pill was about Joey from Full House. pic.twitter.com/cj8eH7ySho
