Back when Hanson topped the charts with their infectious earworm hit MMMbop, brothers Zac, Taylor and Isaac were just kids — and the band’s latest video features appearances by their kids.
With 2017 marking the 25th anniversary of the band, the Hanson brothers are celebrating with the release of a new single, I Was Born, and accompanying music video that stars 11 of the brothers’ 12 collective children.
“Featuring our own kids made sense because we knew they would share an honest performance,” Zac tells People. “We loved the fact that it added another dimension to the story of pursuing our dreams for the last 25 years.”
When MMMBop was released in 1997, People points out, Isaac, Taylor and Zac were 16, 14 and 11, respectively, and the brothers are keen to see their progeny carry the good-time groove to a new generation.
“From the earliest conversations about this song, we imagined kids featured in the video to elevate the song’s message of unbridled optimism for the future,” adds Taylor.
“There was a lot of excitement across the board from the kids so we tried to just capture that in each appearance, which cover the gamut of their many personalities,” notes Isaac. “Thankfully for us, they all love the song.”
I Was Born will be featured on Hanson’s upcoming greatest hits album Middle of Everywhere, set to be released on Sept. 8.
