The Yardbirds may be an old band but they have taken a decidedly new route to get their next album produced. Creators of such classics as “For Your Love”, “Heart Full of Soul”, “Shapes of Things” and many others, the band helped launch the careers of top guitarists Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck.

Of the original band members, only drummer Jim McCarty remains. In 2014, McCarty decided to shake things up and created an entirely new lineup of artists to perform and record with under the old moniker.
This will be the band’s first studio album since 2003’s Birdland. The Yardbirds have partnered with PledgeMusic, a music-oriented crowd-funding site, to raise funds for the album’s recording and production. A name and release date for the album have not yet been determined but esteemed producer Jack Douglas will be at the helm for the sessions, taking analog recordings tracked in a state-of-the-art recording facility.

The new album is being described as “a totally new recording of original songs with a couple of carefully selected covers done in the tradition of how the Yardbirds deconstructed, reconstructed and resurrected old blues songs to bring them to a wider audience.” McCarty adds, “I think the thing is that it’s such a great repertoire and I don’t think we’re going to have any trouble with that level of musicianship – it’s going to be good.”
Not only can pledging fans receive physical & digital copies of the LP, they can also pre-order a number of deluxe packages, including a signed vinyl or CDs and bundles that include a pin or Yardbirds t-shirt. You can go look at the band’s PledgeMusic page for more details.
