Phil McGraw, 67, plugged his show while visiting Jimmy Kimmel Live!. While chatting with Kimmel, McGraw revealed the upcoming interview with O’Connor: “This season we’re launching with a really interesting interview with Sinead O’Connor.”
“How in the world did you get hooked up with Sinead O’Connor?” Kimmel asked. “Well, she actually called me,” Dr. Phil replied.
The Troy singer famously posted a 12-minute long video on Facebook explaining how she has felt alone since losing custody of her 13-year-old son. O’Connor said she has wanted to kill herself for the past two years and only her doctor and psychiatrist were “keeping her alive.”
“You’ve seen her video she’s posted on Facebook and all, from motel rooms in NJ,” McGraw told Kimmel’s audience. “She really has had a difficult time, and she said, ‘Look, I’m in trouble. I need help.’”
“And she called,” McGraw reiterated. “She said, ‘I want to de-stigmatize mental illness; I clearly have a problem… Too many musicians are dying. I want to use my life, be a teaching tool. I’m willing to sit down and talk…’ I was pleased because I’m a great fan of hers.”
On Monday, O’Connor claimed a centre to which Dr. Phil had referred her was not monitoring suicidal patients.
