Think about your country for a moment. If you were given the assignment of writing the most Canadian song ever, what would it contain? Songs about Mounties, beavers and hockey? Maybe. Majestic mountains, polar bears and Saturday nights in Sudbury? Perhaps. But you’ll have to go a long way to beat this one from a Cape Breton band called Pretty Archie.
Hold on. Back up.
The Cape has been transfixed by a thief named “Terry from the Pier” who allegedly made off with some beer from the bed of a pickup while the driver was getting a double-double at Tim Hortons. The beer theft–a 24 of Keith’s, if your interested–is being taken very seriously, close to the equivalent of stealing a horse in the old west. There’s even a crowdfunding campaign to replace the $60 cost of the beer. More than $340 was raised in 12 hours.
The whole caper inspired Pretty Archie to write a song called “Terry Stole the Beer.”
Meanwhile, the search for Terry (“He’s got a funny haircut, if that helps”) goes on. Perhaps they should check some of the nearby trailer parks.
Terry b’y, do the right thing. Give the beer back.
